Missing fishermen found in torres strait

Fisheries officers found a 40-year-old man, apparently missing since Aug. 6, in Torres Straits between Camarines Sur and Barangay Tanah.

He was recovered without a trace at the Laguna Peninsula at about 3:30 a.m.

He was arrested and will face charges for theft of fish.

Marinan fishermen said they were searching for the body of another 50-year-old man, who also went missing between Camarines Sur and Barangay Tanah.

He remains in a detention center at San Pablo National Prison in San Miguel, a police source said.

Puerto Rican fishermen reported seeing two more men on Saturday at Camarines Sur and Barangay Campeche but no one is believed to have been with them.

There are no concrete indications, said Cpl. William Mito of the San Pablo Police Bureau, that the missing persons are fishermen.

Police found the body of one of the missing in the lagoon off the southwestern tip of Marbella island on Saturday, said a police source.

“We’re concerned as to how it happened, but we’re not sure that it’s a human body, just a body that hasn’t been found,” said a police source.

Investigators say they haven’t ruled out foul play.

At least a dozen fishermen who have been missing since the beginning of March left for the sea along the Bay of Campeche to catch tuna, said Miguel Diaz-Perez of the Aquarius Seafood Industry Association.

Perez said the number is likely much higher because authorities haven’t sent boats to the beaches and are instead focusing on looking for the fisherman in the hills above Barangay Barangay Toros.

He hopes that a ship is still able to retrieve the man who was last seen off Tanay City.

It was not immediately clear whether the man was fishing for crabs but Duterte said fishermen are being allowed to fish in the bay.

Perez, like everyone else, is concerned about the safety of his own crew, which has been on a weeklong search.

He said his members, who do the most fishing, are being given extra time, in spite of the search ban imposed on the area.

But some fishermen and some islanders say that the ban may be the result of a ploy by local authorities to keep their fishermen from coming to sea.

Nelson Santos of the Campeche Seafood Industry Association said some fishermen are also afraid of facing reprisals from local government officials who oppose them staying on their land.

“The fishermen who have been missing may hav
